TOUR DESCRIPTION (Passage Map)
Immortalized in the writings of Edward Abbey, the canyon country of southern Utah is an ideal setting for an incredible self-guided road cycling tour. Beginning in Moab’s Arches National Park, this 5-day route treats you to a highlight reel of landscapes: Cedar Mesa, Lake Powell, Capitol Reef NP, Grand Staircase Escalante NM, Bryce Canyon NP and Zion NP.
This is a self-guided road cycling tour – no pampering, no frills and no beginner days. Nope, this is 4 days of big rides on your own. Each day we’ll meet up and start together, meet you at designated areas with the van so you can swap gear, grab a drink or food from your cooler and then your luggage and gear will be waiting for you in each destination town.
You can choose to sign up for our lodging package (based on double occupancy), or you may book your own lodging for the 4 nights during the tour. Lodging options for this self-guided road cycling tour are limited, but you will find several choices in each destination town.

Day One:
Moab to Arches NP to Moab. We’ll meet up at 7:30am sharp at the Chili Pepper Bike Shop. Today you ride about 6 miles north of town to Arches National Park along Moab’s great bike path. Once at Arches NP you will need $5.00 to enter by bike. There are about 22 miles of paved roads within Arches National Park for you to explore. We highly recommend riding them all and also exploring off the road a bit. Open Road will be parked centrally at Panorama Point…
Day Two:
Blanding to Lake Powell. Today is one of those days you’ll look back on and have trouble organizing just how much incredible scenery you saw throughout the day. As we leave Blanding the ride will start somewhat bleakly. We’d argue it’s a somewhat fitting start to the day. Turning west on Route 95 the terrain starts finally giving way to distant views of Cedar Mesa…
Day Three:
Hanksville to Boulder. Paralleling the Fremont River out of Hanksville we’re headed toward Capitol Reef National Park and it’s dominant feature: the Waterpocket Fold. Stretching almost 100 miles, the Waterpocket Fold is a massive buckle in the earth’s surface manifested as a long rock formation…
Day Four:
Boulder to Bryce Canyon. Leaving Boulder this morning we’ll be riding along the New Home and Haymaker Benches; formations that begin our journey through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Former President Bill Clinton did us all a favor on his way out of office in 1996 and decreed this area a National Monument assuring…
Day Five:
Bryce Canyon to Zion National Park. Your final day in Canyon Country is a ride into storied Zion National Park. The first half of today’s ride includes a lot of easy cruising and descending down Highway 89 just past Orderville. This stretch speaks volumes to the diversity of the area as one can see so many different formations and layers in the distance. This section of 89 follows the East Fork of the Virgin River…
